osx printer driver appearing twice

I'm having a problem on two OSX 10.4.9 PPC machines. After some de-
and re-installations of a Lexmark Optra W810 printer the system shows
the following symptoms.
With installed Lexmark Optra W810 driver application crash when
printing is invoked.
When the Lexmark Optra W810 is removed everything goes fine.
But the most troubling thing is when I'm about to reinstall the
Lexmark Optra W810 printer its driver appears twice on the pull-down
menu showing up when the printer is recognized. Either one chosen then
leads to the problems described above.

Idea anyone?
