Hiya,
I'm trying to set the pathways in the baldur.ini file for BG II,
shadows of amn so I don't hafta swap cd's. I've tried a variety of
path separators, initial characters, and what not, but the game still
asks me for cd swaps...dang it!
Now that my cd's are getting scratchy from swapping, it's getting a
bit more imperative than just convenience...
er, does anyone have an example of a working version of a baldur.ini
file with pathways for a full mac install?
Here's the latest iteration I tried:
-=-=-=-=-
[Program Options]
Install Type=3
[Alias]
HD0:=scratchy:/Volumes/xKiva/BGII - SoA
CD1:=scratchy:/Volumes/xKiva/BGII - SoA/CD1
CD2:=scratchy:/Volumes/xKiva/BGII - SoA/CD2
CD3:=scratchy:/Volumes/xKiva/BGII - SoA/CD3
CD4:=scratchy:/Volumes/xKiva/BGII - SoA/CD4
[Game Options]
Memory Access=100
Memory Level=1
=-=-=-=-=-=-=
scratchy is the machine name, and I have many partitions of two hard
drives in it, hence the /Volumes root pathway. Also, this version
uses the unix forward slash separator, and no slash at the end of the
string either... I tried the annoying dos backslashes, but didn't
seemt to work either. Is this in left field or what?? Hm. maybe
also the install type needs to change? what's the number then?
Here's an eg I found on the net:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-
[Alias]
HD0:=x:.\
CD1:=x:\Macintosh HD\Applications (Mac OS 9)\Games\Baldur's Gate (or
Tales)\Game Data\
CD2:=x:\Macintosh HD\Applications (Mac OS 9)\Games\Baldur's Gate (or
Tales)\Game Data\
CD3:=x:\Macintosh HD\Applications (Mac OS 9)\Games\Baldur's Gate (or
Tales)\Game Data\
CD4:=x:\Macintosh HD\Applications (Mac OS 9)\Games\Baldur's Gate (or
Tales)\Game Data\
CD5:=x:\Macintosh HD\Applications (Mac OS 9)\Games\Baldur's Gate (or
Tales)\Game Data\
CD6:=x:\Macintosh HD\Applications (Mac OS 9)\Games\Baldur's Gate (or
Tales)\Game Data\
-=-=-=-=-=-=-
but the 'x' seemed to me like a generic char representing the machine
name...or maybe not...erm, unh, um, ah, what the heck? :)
any help I'd mucho apprecio!
thanks!

I haven't tried this, but maybe try making paths that don't have spaces
(or other special chars) in them. In fact, just to be safe, I'd take
out the "-" (ok to replace with "_").
Some systems have a really hard time with Mac's free-form pathnames...
Let us know if this helps!

Alas, I tried changing the directory name to BGII_SoA to no avail.
maybe I just haven't found the right combination of path separators
and incantations...
sigh...
thanks for the input though!<!-- ~MESSAGE_AFTER~ --> >> Stay informed about: paths in baldur.ini |

Try this:
[Program Options]
Install Type=3
[Alias]
HD0:=:
CD1:=:CD1:
CD2:=:CD2:
CD3:=:CD3:
CD4:=:CD4:
That's what I had after doing a full install. May ask you for CD1 or
something for verification.
You might want to make disk images (.dmgs) w/ Disk Utility (Apps->
Utils-> Disk Utility) of the CDs now if they're scratched, so you can
burn copies of them in case they become scratched beyond usability.

I don't have it currently installed, so I can't say exactly what works,
but here are my ideas.
HD0:=/Volumes/xKiva/BGII - SoA
CD1:=:Volumes:xKiva:BGII - SoA:CD1
You don't use the machine name when refering to /Volumes, and it might
want colons instead of slashes. Path separators in previous versions
of the Mac OS were colons. I hope this works, I can do a bit more
research if it doesn't.
