I have an iMac, OS10.4.11, and use Newswatcher for newsgroups. When I
download a movie in multipart form, I can (usually) play the first part
using VLC, but subsequent parts won't play. I get messages such as
"seeking too far," "(file) is empty, aborting
main: no suitable access module for (filename)" and "no suitable demux
module for (filename)"
What am I doing wrong?
VLC is the only application that will play any of these formats. If I
use Quicktime or WMP, I get messages saying that the file is not a valid
movie format. >> Stay informed about: playing mpg, avi, etc. |

When you say "Newswatcher" do you actually mean MT-NewsWatcher? I'm
pretty sure that the original NewsWatcher (on which the latter is based)
is not available for OS X. Then there's the matter of your headers
indicating that you posted this via Thunderbird...
But a proper answer to your query would require more information. What
precisely is meant by "multipart form" when you download? If it's
simply a multipart binary that MT-NW rejoins for you, that's one thing
-- though you don't say what format the end product is in either. But
some files might have to be rejoined by additional software before the
final playable movie is properly usable in any player.

Part of the problem is that I don't know enough to even phrase my
questions well.
Yes, I'm using MT-Newswatcher (v. 3.5.2). On a newsgroup, I might find
a series of file: file.mpg.001, file.mpg.002, etc. or file.avi.001. If
I click on 001 and select Save Binaries and then open it with VLC, it
will usually play that file. But if I do the same with 002, it will not
play it. Can someone direct me to a resource that explains how to
handle these files? >> Stay informed about: playing mpg, avi, etc. |
