Mike-
1. In my opinion you will be hard pressed to make photos printed on a
Laser Printer look as good as those printed on one of the better Inkjets.
There may be some competition if you only use Matte paper, but there is no
contest for Glossy paper. (Glossy Inkjet paper can't (shouldn't) be used
in a Laser printer. Glossy Laser paper is available.)
2. Who makes the best TV or Automobile? Everyone has their own
favorite. In the case of printers, make sure the manufacturer states it
works with Macintosh using the Operating System(s) you want to use.
I have one Inkjet printer that prints beautiful photos with bright
colors. In a month of exposure to sunlight, the image had faded to an
unacceptable level. When the printer starting having problems, it was
replaced with a newer model that turned out to have very poor color, both
in hue and in brightness. A third printer has better color hue, but is
somewhat drab compared to the first. A fourth printer makes prints with
fairly good color, but absolutely no moisture resistance.
Choosing an Inkjet printer involves a trade-off between ease of use
(friendliness?), color and image longevity. For these parameters, a Color
Laser Printer may produce acceptable prints. Just don't expect it to make
good glossy photos!
