My Virtual PC froze yesterday and I had the force quit. Now I can only
get it started in safe mode. I am using a 1.25 GHz PowerBook G4 w/1 GB
ram. When I try to restart, it freezes about 5 seconds into the
start-up. Any ideas?

What version of Windows are you using?

If its XP, you could try restoring to a previous restore point. You
should get prompted for this when XP finishes booting into safe mode.

I have a little more information:

I am using Windows XP Pro and Virtual PC ver 6.1.1. I have done a restore to
a previous restore point. I have started Safe mode successfully and have run
chkdsk which says all files are ok. I have also entered msconfig while in
safe mode and preformed a clean boot of windows. Every attempt to restart
windows after leaving safe mode results in the hang.
Thanks for your responses!

I have no additional advice for recovering from a crash but...
When you have it running again make a backup of the vpc6 image file AND
consider creating a d: drive for your data.

I have experienced a lock up of VPC 6.0 during start up. I am unable
to restore to a previous restore point and unable to start in anything
but Safe Mode.

Do you have any recommendations? Should I reinstall?
Jessica

My system is OS 10.3.4. I have a 15in G4 powerbook, Power PC G4 1.1
CPU, 1.5 GHz and the version of VPC is 6.0. I believe you need this
information.

What has been happening is that the XP window freezes. Each time I
restart, it freezes. There is no way to get XP to work. I have
restarted innumerable times and the start up freezes. I have started
in safe mode and tried to restore to a configuration that works. None
work. The XP start up still freezes. I can start in safe mode but I
cannot use my shared drives or devices in safe mode.

I have tried to reload the software for VPC 6.0 and the error message
I get is that I don't have permissions to replace the file.

I need some advice that will help. So far this software has not been
helpful. I tried to run it on my G3 with OS 9 and it was too slow to
work. I bought a G4 OS10 and I still haven't got it to work
effectively.

Is there anyone who can help me with this problem?

Thank you,

Jessica
