Does anyone know how I can adjust the settings in powerpoint so that
whenever I open a file with chinese characters, that it automatically
converts the fonts and read appropritately? My problem is that
whenever other people send me powerpoint files containing chinese
characters, they appear as garbage when I open the files and I have to
manually convert the text one at a time to a specific chinese font in
order to read them. Thanks!

Using Format -> Replace Fonts allows you to replace all instances of one
font with another. It could help expedite the process you're going through
if I understand the issue correctly.
