I've got an Airport Extreme (square shape) that has very slow access
speeds.

Currently set to 802.11n (with b/g compatibility) and being accessed by
a MacBook with 802.11n, it mostly only manages to pump out ~130 bytes a
second.

I'm on high speed cable, and computers connected via Cat5 cable to the
network all get much higher speeds.

Any ideas on why it could be going so slowly?

Thanks,

Dale

Did you try opening Airport Admin Utility and setting the Airport to a
different channel? If it is being slowed by interference from other
wireless users, then this seems to help.

That does make it go faster, but I need b/g for Powerbook we have.
I'd be surprised if that caused it to slow to ~130 byte/sec though...

It's set to automatic channel. I think you may be asking about something
else though?

Again, change the channel away from automatic to another (higher)
number. That often does the trick.

Finally found out what the problem was - my laptops had incorrect DNS
settings, so local copies were nice & fast, but lookups always resulted
in DNS timeouts.

No problem with the AE at all!
