No, AppleScript isn't the right tool for this job.

Unfortunately, Mac OS X currently does not have a system-wide spelling
checker - at least not in the sense of what you want. It is left to
individual application developers to implement spell checking in their
applications. Some use standard facilities offered by Mac OS X Cocoa
frameworks, while others use their own proprietary implementation.
What I think you want is a system-wide spell checker. There are some
available - IIRC, one of the better ones is SpellCatcher:
