I'm trying to figure it out. Some of the text implies that they've
restored the 'recordable' feature but the user interface in the
picture suggests that it's more like drag-and-drop to assemble
several steps into one script.

I wonder if Automator uses AppleScript.

The 'recordable' feature is already available in Mac OS X.
