I need a serial port for my 533dual which just has USB.

Anyone used the Keyspan serial to usb adapters?

I've used 'em for my Palm, for a Personal LaserWriter, and for a
specialized experiment input device. They can be temperamental, and I've
heard that they don't work with all serial devices. What do you need a
serial port for?

I'vw used one to connect an iMac (slot loading) to a printer. Works
fine under 9.0-9.2, can't comment under 10.x.

I have also used (am using) a belkin usb to mac/pc serial adapter, under
9.2 its ok most of the time, under 10.2 it sucks! (Can't find
any drivers etc etc!)

You might want to look at a gPort from Griffin Technology. It goes into
the modem slot and seem to give better compatibility than the USB to
Serial adaptors. Of course you can't use an internal modem if you go
this route.

A data logger for weather instruments. I'm using OS 10.2.6. Any
problems with deep sleep?

I turn off sleep on my desktop computer and use a screensaver; actually,
in the summer, I often shut it down, as I don't have A/C at home. So I
don't have any experience with sleep.

Thanks for reminding me about gPort. I will check it out again. I
don't use the built in modem.

Similar (i.e., replaces the internal modem) is the Stealth serial port,
from GeeThree. I have one in my 450dual running 10.2.6 and it works
fine.

I'm not sure but I think the gPort and the Stealth port are the same
thing just sold by two companies under different names.

I have the original gPort installed in my B&W G3 and have used it with
modems and a Stylewriter 2500 with no problems.
