how to sync ical on a home network?

I have an ibook and a desktop G4 on a wireless home network.

I'd like to automatically sync my ical calendars without buying into Apple's
..mac service.
Being fond of Python, I'm thinking of using
http://sourceforge.net/projects/pyzeroconf/ to get started.

any ideas/suggestions?
