I've had a frustrating experience creating a relatively simple
document with news items to be sent as a simple newsletter. Since I
can't figure out how to upload a sample, perhaps you could take a look
at the online version of this newsletter. The url is <http://
sigct.iste.wikispaces.net/showimage/SIGCT-Newsletter-Dec2007.doc>.
You I'm sure notice the horizontal lines after the CS&IT Symposium
entry, after the SIGCT Online Publication entry and two others.
Please help me understand where these are coming from, how these are
being generated, how to get rid of them, and how to avoid them in the
future.

Thanks

You have put a border at the bottom of your paragraphs.

You probably did it when you used

---

as the separator between paragraphs. To stop this autoformat, choose
Tools/AutoCorrect/AutoFormat As You Type, and uncheck the Borders
checkbox.

The easiest way to remove the borders is to click the Border button in
the Borders and Shading section of the Formatting Palette and choose the
No Border option.

....Another option if you don't want to disable the AutoFormat feature - Set
a Dash Leader tab @ 0.19" (approx. depending on font & font size) which will
provide you with the --- when you press tab & will not convert to a border
when you press return.

One additional alternative to avoid disabling the feature - when you key the
--- and press return, immediately type Command+Z (or use the AutoCorrect
Options button) to Undo the AutoFormat change.

Interesting - I took a look at the Tools/Autocorrect... as you
suggested and discovered that boarders were not checked. I did try
your other suggestion to get rid of them and there again found that
borders were set to none. However, after highlighting text above and
below a line and clicking on something other than none then checking
on none again, I got the border to move. Doing this several times I
eventually "chased" the horizontal lines off of the page. So I got it
cleaned up. Thanks

I'll be trying your alternatives on the January issue of the
newsletter. Thanks for the tips!

I was unable to find a "no border" option. I eventually got rid of the horizontal rule (or line) by doing undo many, many times.
