Every time I use Find in the Finder, print using any driver, or generally
open a window and change its size, OS X does not remember the size or
location of that window. Next time I reboot, it's like I never used that
feature before.

Seems like it's mostly with OS windows, not apps.

Am I doing something wrong? Or do I just have to wait until the OS X
programmers get down the list of priorities to my item?

Ideas?

Thanks,

I'm afraid you're doing nothing wrong.

Just to make sure you've left feedback for any issues you care about on
Apple's site. :)

Entity DaveC spoke thus:

Does this happen for folders you are owner of? If it DOES something is
wrong. It is normal for folders you do not own, such as folders owned by the
system which are not in your userfolder.

If you set yourself as owner of the folder, make the window to your liking
then close it and set the owner back to original it will be remembered
between reboots.

There are other permanent solutions involving Netinfo and groups, if you're
interested ask here.

I have a similar problem; I like the version of the finder window that
has all the textual details about the files, rather than the little
pictures (I've been a UNIX guy since the mid-80s; there's no converting
me now). Sadly, the Finder keeps reverting to the little pictures.
Not all the time, but a lot of the time. And this is on directories
I own, as well as system directories.

Any theories?
