You should proceed with the following steps to reset the WMP in Vista.
Delete the following folder:
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Media Player
Locate and delete the following registry keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer
HKLM\Software\Microsoft\MediaPlayer
Restart the computer
These should solve it.
