Hi, I'm new here. Pls let me know if this has been discussed recently
(most recent is about 12 mo. ago?)
I'm also new to LCDs. I am researching 20" (or that size range) LCD
displays for my MDD G4 tower. For years I've used a sweet 19" (18"
viewable) Hitachi RasterOps MC7515 that has amazing resolution and
color, but I'd love a smaller footprint plus I've been staring
at/getting irradiated by CRTs for 15 years. It's time to make the
switch.
1. An ad agency pal likes his 23" ACD, but I probably don't need more
than 21" max.
2. My budget is $800. I know this is a tall order but I can go a bit
smaller in viewable size if I have to.
3. Applications: text, graphics, photography, everything. I want great
resolution and color but I don't need to do color proofing (as in ad
agency work) - the RasterOps is still good for that.
4. Are dead pixels ever a concern? I've heard you may never notice them
but have to live with them nevertheless.
SO... what do you like? Apple? LaCie? ViewSonic? Model names and
numbers and prices would be a huge help (crushing work deadlines).
Thank you very much in advance - I'm new to LCDs so am unsure of the
performance parameters and issues I should be aware of, though I do
know about viewing angle issues.
In case it matters my system specs are: Dual-boot MDD G4 Tower,
1.25Mhz, 1.25 gigs physical RAM, 64 megs VRAM. Apple System Profiler
has this to say about the video card:
SLOT-1 (AGP)
Display card (Display)
Card type: ATY,DDParent
Card name: ATY,PheonixParent
Card model: ATY,RV250
Card ROM #: 113-99702-131
Card revision: 1
Card vendor ID: 1002
VRAM size: 64 MB
Thanks very much! - Roger
